Digestive Health

Posted on Updated on

You will have probably heard the expression “you are what you eat”. A more accurate statement is you are what you absorb. Nothing is more important to our health than a healthy digestive tract.

A few easy ways to maintain a good digestive system.

*Chew thoroughly. Digestion starts in the mouth and not chewing thoroughly makes digestion of food much harder when it reaches your stomach.

* A squeeze of lemon juice or teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (not normal vinegar, this is very different) in warm water before meals

*Eat only when hungry and always stop eating once full

*When natures calls – answer. This will prevent constipation and makes eliminating waste easier.

*Drink plenty of fluids to prevent being constipated (but not at meal times as this dilutes stomach acid, which is needed to help break down food properly)

*Never eat while moving, pre occupied, emotionally upset or stressed.

* Reduce your intake of white flour, white sugar, bread, noodles and other refined foods

*Eat a fibre rich whole food diet with the emphasis on fruits, veges and whole grains.

* Do regular exercise as this helps to move food through the digestive system.
